Anantnag, June 18

A Tourism Department employee and a woman were killed and seven others injured after their raft capsized during a rafting championship.

The event was being held in memory of Rauf Ahmad Dar, who died last month while rescuing some tourists after their raft had capsized. The deceased have been identified as Tourism Department employee Rinku Raja and woman participant from Jammu Sanjana.

A senior police official said the mishap occurred at Pahalgam around 4 pm. “The boat was hit by gushing waters of the Lidder, thus capsizing it,” he said. A standby team of the State Disaster Relief Management and Jammu and Kashmir Police pulled out those on the raft and shifted them to hospital. — TNS
