2 contractors fined for flouting environmental rules

During an on spot inspection, Environment Minister Imran Hussain on Saturday found gross violations of environmental rules, including dust pollution control norms, at two construction sites on Deen Dayal Upadyaya (DDU) Marg here.

Challan was issued of Rs 50,000 each to contractors of both the projects following the inspection.

"Inspected 2 under construction sites at DDU marg & found that gross violation of environmental rules reg dust pollution was taking place. The administrative officers present with me at the site issued challan of ?50 thousand each on both contractors,” tweeted Hussain.

This came on a day when the air quality recorded in Delhi remained worrying even as there was a marginal improvement due to favourable meteorological conditions on Saturday.

Notices to SDMC, EDMC 

The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has issued showcause notices on November 29 to the South Delhi Municipal Corporations and the East Delhi Municipal Corporation over their failure to tackle air-polluting activities in the city seeking a response within 48 hours why action should not be initiated for prosecution of the commissioners of the two civic bodies for the same.

As per CPCB data, the overall air quality index of Delhi was 299 with air pollution level recorded to be “very poor” in 16 areas and “poor” at 15 places.
