Two youths have been arrested on the charges of defrauding a local resident by changing his ATM card. An amount of Rs 11,000 has been recovered from them.
A spokesperson for the police department said the arrested persons had been identified as Krishan alias Bhola and Pawan Kumar, hailing from Badram village. They had changed the ATM card of one Hari Singh of Mitrol village.
Hari Singh had tried to withdraw some money from an ATM booth here on January 5. It is reported that in the ATM booth, one of the youths approached him extending help. As the card was inserted and pin was entered, the accused stopped the machine and asked the victim to go to another ATM and claimed that the machine was not functioning. On reaching home, the victim received a message that an amount of Rs 23,500 has been withdrawn from his account through the ATM. He later found that his ATM card had been replaced.
He lodged a complaint with the city police station and a team, led by Inspector Suresh Kumar, got the breakthrough after the accused were arrested from Kithwari chowk on information provided by an informer on January 14. The accused were sent to judicial custody on Wednesday after a day in police remand.
