As many as 19 policemen facing criminal cases have been shifted from Amritsar district to other districts of the border range. The step has been taken to improve the image of the police among the people.

Amritsar (Rural) SSP Vikram Jeet Duggal confirmed the development and said nine Assistant Sub-Inspectors, eight Head Constables and two Constables had been shift to other districts of the border range.

He said the main objective was not only to improve the image of the police force but also curb the criminal tendency among the police personnel.

“Policemen with tainted record could not get the respect of the people, defeating the main objective of efficient policing. Therefore, it is necessary to keep police officers with tainted record out of field jobs,” he said. The SSP asked the policemen to do their duty with utmost honesty and integrity. He said they should act within the law and avoid crossing their lines.

“From now onwards, if anyone is found involved in a criminal activity, the tainted police officer will have to face departmental action. Besides, he or she will be shifted out of the district till the announcement of verdict by court in their cases,” he said.
