A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a youth in Budhatheh village here on April 29. Her family members lodged a complaint with the police on Wednesday.

The accused, identified as Manpreet Singh of Sainsra village, is a distant relative of the victim. A case under Sections 376, 506 of the IPC and Section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence Act (POCSO) has been registered against him. He is yet to be arrested.

The probe has been marked to Sub-Inspector Chainchal who informed that the medical examination of the victim was conducted at the Majitha Civil Hospital on Thursday and the final reports were awaited.

The mother of the 16-year-old victim stated to the police that as the accused was a distant relative and known to the family, he used to visit them occasionally. According to the girl, when her family members went to sleep after dinner on the intervening night of April 29 and 30, the accused scaled the wall to enter her house at around 11.30 pm. His mobile carried some pictures of the victim and, on the pretext of deleting it, he took her to an under-construction house at the backside of her residence that belonged to her uncle. She alleged that though she protested, the accused forcibly made physical relations with her and threatened of dire consequences if she told anyone about that. The police authorities said that raids were on to nab the culprit.

Meanwhile, the Jandiala police have booked a youth, Akash, a resident of Navi Abadi in Jandiala, for allegedly molesting a girl student.

The victim informed the police that Akash met her one her way to school and offered her a lift on his scooter on Wednesday. She alleged that instead of taking her to school, he took her to some secluded place near the Golden Temple and made advances. As she protested, he left her outside her school. She narrated the entire incident to her mother following which a complaint with the police was lodged. A case under Section 354-A of the PC has been registered against Akash and no arrest has been made till now.
