15 teachers awarded for excellence

MOHALI: As many as 15 teachers from across the country have been honoured with Teachers Excellence Awards at a function organised by Manav Mangal Smart School, Mohali, in association with Dr GC Mishra Memorial Education and Charitable Trust on the school premises here today.

As many as 15 teachers from across the country have been honoured with Teachers Excellence Awards at a function organised by Manav Mangal Smart School, Mohali, in association with Dr GC Mishra Memorial Education and Charitable Trust on the school premises here today.

According to the organisers, the teachers were selected on basis of their remarkable contribution in the field of education. The event was supported by Lions Club Chandigarh Central.

Earlier, former Union Minister of State for Human Resource and Development and former Commissioner of Mumbai Police Dr Satya Pal Singh honoured the teachers.

Two physically challenged teachers, one from Himachal Pradesh and the other from Rajasthan were also honoured on the occasion.

“Sanjay Kumar Sen, a physically challenged teacher from Rajasthan, has been teaching at Government Model Higher Secondary School in Mahenduria village, Rajsamand, under the Shiksha Sambal Project since 2009, while Hari Dutt Sharma from Himachal Pradesh, who was born without hands, is teaching in Government Model Senior Secondary School, Malgi, Sirmaur. He does all work with his feet, said the organisers.

Jarkiran Harika, Principal of DAV Public School, Sector 8, Chandigarh, was awarded the first Life Time Achievement Award.

Other teachers who were honoured include Ajay Lohan of Government Senior Secondary School, Narnaund, Hisar; Bodhraj, JBT in Government Primary School, Panipat; Darshandeep Singh Gill and his wife Ravinder Kaur, teachers in Government School in Khanna, Ludhiana; Hukum Singh Uniyal, Headmaster of Rajkeeya Purva Madhyamik Vidyalaya, Dehra, Rajpur Road, Dehradun Uttarakhand; Narinder Kaur, Headmistress of Government Middle School, Sector 45, Chandigarh; Mohammed Intzar, teacher at Government High School, Indira Colony, Mani Majra; Saranjit Kaur, teacher at Bhavan Vidyalaya, Sector 33, Chandigarh; Dr Harish Kumar, professor, UIET, Panjab University; Dr Dalip Kumar, associate professor and head of the Department of Zoology at Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector 42, and Naresh Kumar and Anil Sharma of Manav Mangal.
