Around 14 children are suspected to have been suffering from jaundice in Madanheri village here in the past few days.

On receiving the information, a team from the Health Department reached the village on Saturday and collected samples of water and kids’ blood.

Village Sarpanch Jaswinder Singh said this had happened due to the contamination of water. He said the piped drinking water was getting mixed with dirty water. He said he had informed the department concerned, but no one bothered.

When the health of the children deteriorated, the matter was raised with Cabinet Minister Charanjit Singh, who then directed the Health Department to send a team.

A villager, Jaswant Singh, said he had filed complaints on the Chief Minister portal about the issue, but no action was taken.

Meanwhile, Gharuan SMO Dr Kuljeet Kaur said on getting the information, the Health Department team, lead by Munish Jain, visited the village and examined around 14 kids suffering from fever. Out of 14, the condition of four was critical and one was admitted to the Kharar Civil Hospital, he said.

Kharar Civil Hospital SMO Surinder Singh said children were being treated according to the protocol and situation was under control.
