A 13-year-old girl from West Bengal was allegedly abducted and gangraped in the district’s Daultabad village on Monday night. She had gone to the local market to buy milk when she was abducted by three boys. Two of them allegedly raped her at gunpoint.

The police rescued her on Tuesday from a dinghy accommodation and caught hold of one of the boys, who tried to escape by jumping off the roof. He injured his legs.

Sources said he was medically unfit to be arrested. His age could not be ascertained, the police said.

A case was registered against three boys under Sections 366, 365, 363 and 506 of the IPC, the POCSO Act and the Arms Act.

“When the girl did not return home from the market, her family started searching for her. Later, the family filed a missing person complaint,” said police spokesperson Subhash Bokan.

The girl’s mother reportedly told the police, “The accused threatened my daughter not to make any sound or else they would kill her. They raped her in darkness. She is in immense pain. Whenever she tries to speak up, she gets scared. She mumbles that she can feel the gun around,”

Child Welfare Committee chairperson Shakuntala Dhull said, “The girl is in trauma. She is shivering and clinging on to her mother. All she utters is ‘gun’ and ‘darkness’. She is not in a state to speak.”
