13-year-old crushed by bus, kin damage vehicle

A 13-year-old boy was crushed by a bus on the Lohara road today. Following the incident, kin of the deceased along with the area residents damaged the bus by pelting stones. They even entered into a scuffle with the police. The police resorted to a mild lathi charge to disperse the crowd gathered at the spot.

The deceased was identified as Prince, a resident of Jaspal Colony, Giaspura. As per sources, Prince along with his father Manoj Kumar was waiting for a bus as they were to visit Alamgir gurdwara to pay obeisance. Suddenly, a private bus rammed into the boy and crushed him to death on the spot. The victim’s father had miraculous escape as he jumped off the road to save his life.

Following the accident, kin of the deceased and area residents gathered at the spot. They started pelting stones at the bus and also used big sticks to damage the vehicle.

Meanwhile, a police party reached the spot and tried to control the situation. However, when protesters did not budge and threw stones at the police personnel, they resorted to a mild lathi charge to disperse the crowd.

Driver of the bus fled from the spot after the accident. He was booked by the police under Section 304 A, IPC. He is yet to be arrested.

Police officials said a former councillor of the area Chandarbhan along with four others had incited victim’s kin and others to damage the bus and attack the police. He was arrested along with others under Section 353 and 186, IPC, they added.
