Urging people to derive maximum benefit from the free milk testing facility provided by the Punjab Government, Deputy Director of Punjab Dairy Development Department Jarnail Singh on Wednesday said the department tested 302 samples of milk in Mansa district from April 1 to October 16, out of which 127 samples were found substandard.
As per a note issued here, Jarnail Singh informed that to check the quality of milk taken by residents, the department has conducted 11 Milk Consumer Awareness Camps in cities and towns since April 1, in which 278 samples have been tested and 159 samples were found fit for human consumption whereas in 119 samples milk was found diluted.
He said 24 samples of milk brought by consumers to the district dairy development office were tested, of which eight samples were found adulterated. He said only water was mixed in milk samples. No sample was found with any harmful chemical.
The Deputy Director informed that department teams had sensitised farmers about the schemes, activities and facilities of the Punjab Government by holding four Milk Producer Awareness Camps in rural areas of the district at different times.
Besides, farmers were motivated to adopt subsidiary occupation of the agriculture such as dairy farming and fisheries. He said about 450 farmers had taken part in the camps. He asked residents of the district to take the maximum benefit of the free milk testing facility of the government so that quality milk could be used at home.
