Solan, January 18

A team of officials, led by the SDM, Nahan, a DSP, labour officials and the Childline helpline, of Sirmaur district rescued 11 minor children from Pashupati Spinning Mill at Kala Amb where they had been forced to undertake hazardous work for several hours.

Throwing all norms to the winds, the plant management had made them work from 11 to 14 hours. The children hail from Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.

The Sirmaur unit of the Childline first investigated on their own and later informed the authorities. A meeting was conducted by officials on how to proceed on this information and a surprise inspection of the spinning mill was conducted where the children were found working in the unit. They were getting a paltry Rs 8,000 per month.

DSP (headquarters) Babita Rana said Aadhaar cards of the children had been edited to conceal their actual age and the children were not allowed to come out of the unit. The medical examination of the children was being conducted and they had been placed under the supervision of the administration.

They would be produced before the child welfare committee and action against the plant management would be taken.
