1 lakh youth to be trained for jobs

The government has targeted to train over one lakh youth under three skill development schemes - the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana, Asian Development Bank-funded Kaushal Vikas Yojana and Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Kaushalya Vikas Yojana — to give them employment.

According to a press note here today, under the PM Kaushal Vikas Yojana, Himachal Pradesh Kaushal Vikas Nigam  is  training  22 service providers. The providers will train 22,000 youth and so far 341 trainees have been given employment.

The nigam has registered 824 students in 2017-18,  while another 1,010 students have registered themselves in 2018-19 for skill training.

The government has signed an MoU for five-year Skill Development Project of Rs 650 crore with the Asian Development Bank on March 28, 2018.

Under this project, skill of more than 53,000 youth will be developed, 50 ITIs will be upgraded, 6 urban livelihood centres and seven rural livelihood centres will be opened.  Under this programme, 7,000 youth will be provided training in the first phase.

The nigam is also upgrading the Model Career Centre, Hamirpur, Government Women Polytechnic College, Rehan, Urban Livelihood Centre, Shamshi, Urban Livelihood Centre, Sundernagar, and Urban Livelihood Centre, Nahan, under this project.  

The construction work of the Rural Livelihood Centre, Sadyana in Mandi district, and Rural Livelihood Centre, Chopal and Pragatinagar in Shimla district, have also been started.

The Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana has also been implemented at Rs 77 crore. Under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana, the first instalment of Rs 21.56 crore has been received. This will provide employment skills to about 50,000 youth.
