Use technology to check cyber crime, DGP tells cops

Uttarakhand DGP BS Sidhu today said the police personnel should remain updated to crack cybercrime-related cases. He said technology would prove extremely beneficial to solve the IT-related cases after inaugurating a two-day cybercrime awareness workshop held at Police Lines today. The workshop is being organised by the Uttarakhand Police and Data Security Council of India.

Sidhu said methods of committing crime had changed with time. Criminals were using different modes of communication to commit crimes in order to hide their identity. Around 90% of the crime cases had been solved by using information technology. He added updated knowledge of software and hardware components would be conducive for solving cyber crimes.

The DGP said use of cyber equipment and mobile applications had gained pace, hence having complete knowledge of these applications was an advantage for investigating team.

Vinayak Godse, Director, Data Security Council of India, said central processing units, display monitors, smart cards, dongles, answering machines, digital cameras, hard drives, local area network, printers etc could be taken as evidence to solve cyber crime cases.

The participants at the workshop were apprised of emerging cybercrime threat, economic offence, debit and credit cards and online frauds, the IT Act, 2000, and its amendments, digital, forensic search and digital evidences etc.

ADGP Ashok Kumar, IG Training PVK Prasad, IG Sanjay Gunjiyal, SSP Dehradun Pushpak Jyoti, SSP (STF) Sadanand Datte, Dr AS Kamble, senior Director, Department of Electronics & Information Technology, K Venkatesh Murthy, Dr Rahul Jain and 150 constables were present.

Check use of weapons in weddings, says IG

IG, Garhwal, Sanjay Gunjiyal, taking cognizance of the death of a person due to a gunshot in a marriage ceremony in Haridwar, has instructed SSPs to take steps to avoid such incidents in future. He told them to take stringent action against those who use licensed weapons during marriage ceremonies.

Gunjiyal said the use of weapons in any public gathering for expressing happiness was a crime. He directed SSPs to tell banquet hall owners to inform respective police stationss if any person used weapons in any marriage or other ceremony. He said strict action would be taken against banquet hall owners who failed to comply with orders.

The IG directed the SSPs to have zero tolerance for use of licensed weapons in marriage ceremonies.
