Mohammad Weqas, a Kashmiri student, who had yesterday claimed that he was thrashed by some unknown persons, refused to give a complaint to the local police in this regard.

Talking on the issue, SSP HS Bhullar said Weqas was not interested in getting a case registered in this regard. “In fact, we are suspicious as Weqas has made three different statements in connection with the incident. Facts in the statements are not the same,” said SSP Bhullar.

The SSP added that Kharar DSP Deep Kamal met Weqas to know the facts. “First, he told us (police) that he fell on stairs and sustained injuries and later claimed that he was beaten up by some unknown persons while he was en route college from his apartment in Shivalik City, Kharar. In another statement, he told the police that he was pushed by someone,” said SSP Bhullar.

On the other hand, Weqas claimed that he did not change his statement. “I don’t want to get involved in any controversy and put my future at stake. I have to go to college daily and build a good future. Also I don’t want to make my parents disturbed back home,” claimed Weqas.

Weqas is pursuing civil engineering at a private college in Jhanjheri village on the Sirhind-Landran road.
