New Delhi, February 14

Ashis Ray, president of Indian Journalists’ Association (IJA) in Europe, on Monday clarified his position vis-à-vis the January 21 EVM “hackathon” in London saying the claims by the US techie of the machines being vulnerable required a probe.

Indian-origin US-based radio frequency engineer Syed Hyder Ahmed had claimed at the London event the EVMs could be hacked.

Addressing the media here, Ray asked the Indian Government and the Election Commission “to probe whether Ahmed’s utterances were wholly fabrication or there was any element of truth in it”.

Ray claimed his intention was “not of doing anything anti-India” and if he was “misled, it needed to be investigated whether the techie was speaking the truth”.

On his “links” with Congress as party leader Kapil Sibal was present at the London event, he said he had invited six Indian national parties. — TNS
