Shimla, October 1

Former Union minister and Congress leader Anand Sharma today accused the Modi regime of unleashing vendetta against its political opponents by misusing the official machinery.

Addressing a state-level convention at Congress Bhawan here today to focus on the issue of economic slowdown, Sharma said it was unfortunate that the Prime Minister does not speak truth and whatever he says is considered gospel truth.

“The political opponents are being targeted with the narrative shifting away from core issue of economic slowdown,” he remarked.

He said the NDA regime was high on power following the 2019 parliamentary polls. There is an air of arrogance in the Prime Minister and his ministers.

“Nobody is invincible and even the most powerful dictators and rulers have been thrown out by people,” he remarked.

He said while the country is passing through a critical period where there is huge job loss, no investment and capital formation and exports on a steep decline, the Prime Minister is busy campaigning in favour of Donald Trump in the US. “Despite the fact that GDP is down to a mere five and the rupee being worst performing currency not just in Asia but amongst the developing nations, there is no concern or initiatives by the NDA regime to take corrective steps,” he said.

Sharma said what is most surprising amidst this grim economic slowdown is the fact that the 2019 general elections were the most expensive polls with 60 per cent spending by the BJP.

“What is most unfortunate is that the polls were not fought on issues concerning the public and failed promises by Modi about bringing back black money and two crore job creation every year but on a narrative surrounding nationalism,” he lamented.
