The office-bearers and activists of various units of Rotary Club falling under jurisdiction of RI district 3090 have adopted bonsai growing as a means to prevent environmental degradation.

This has been adopted in response to a call made by district governor Dr Vishaw Bandhu Dixit during a meeting of office bearers of various units at Patiala.

Assistant governor Avtar Krishan Sharma said activists of various units of the organisations led by Surinder Pal Sofat and Dr Ravinder Sharma had vowed to grow bonsais at their residence and workplaces, which besides compounding aesthetic value would also serve as a perpetual reminder to grow and nurture normal plants and tree in their respective localities.

District governor Dr Vishaw Bandhu Dixit distributed bonsai plants among senior functionaries from about seventy clubs of the region to trigger the movement aimed at preservation of environment. The movement, a brain child of district trainer PDG Dharamvir Garg was reported to be aimed at persuading members of the Rotary Club to plant normal outdoor plants at plots lying vacant in their vicinity.

“Growing and tending to bonsai trees is a wonderful hobby and great stress reliever. Working with nature while staying in one’s drawing room or office can help him or her become a more peaceful person,” said Dr Dixit maintaining that love for bonsai plants was bound to prompt anyone grow outdoor trees too.
