Amritsar, June 14

A fortnight-long campaign against drug abuse for mass awareness will conclude on June 26.

Alka Kalia, Assistant Commissioner, said the government was committed to root out the scourge of drug abuse. To achieve the objective, various measures had been employed, including offering free of cost de-addiction medical aid.

She exhorted officials of the Education Department to make students aware of the catastrophic consequences of drug addiction.

She called upon people to bring as many addicts as possible to their nearest centers to treat them of addiction.

Deputy Medical Commissioner Dr Prabhdeep Kaur Johal said as many as 15,324 addicts were being treated at 10 opioid agonist treatment(OAT) centres in the district. She added that the identity of the inmates was kept secret.
