What made you take up the role of Rahul?
I love dancing and I am always open to learn any form of dance. One fine day, I got a call for audition for an upcoming project based on dance. I am also a huge fan of reality shows and this appeared as the perfect chance. The best part about this show is the concept of Dramality. It’s a combination of fiction and non-fiction which I haven’t seen on television before. That’s what made me audition for the show.
Tell us about your role?
I am playing a rich spoilt brat, who is going to get launched in a big Bollywood film, but before that he wants to show his worth to the world with his dancing and performing skills. There are a lot of layers to my character.
Do you have any professional training in dance?
I have never been trained in dancing but having said that I have been following different dance forms and dancers since a very long time. I feel that as an actor it is most important to express yourself and dance is a form of expression. I believe that best dancers can be great actors too.
Are you taking any training for this show?
Yes, for my performances in this show I am training with choreographer Ashish Patil. He is a well-known chorographer in the industry and it is great to learn from him. He is helping me with the basics of dance, teaching me all technicalities of this art. I never imagined it would be so tough but yes, Ashish sir is making it easy for me.
Your favourite dancer and dance form?
Being an actor, I have always enjoyed Bollywood and my favourite dancer is Govinda sir.
We haven’t seen you on screen for a few years now. What was the reason for this break?
I decided to take a break of 2.5 years and went on to assist directing of films to learn about cinema. I ended up assisting on Extraordinary journey of the Fakir, starring Dhanush, which was directed by Ken Scott. It gave me a real understanding of characters and film-making. Post assisting on that project, I started auditioning again for films and shows and was waiting for that one good project to work on.
