Chandigarh, January 28

Crossing the busy road outside the PGI is a huge task and need to be equipped with pelican lights so as to enable pedestrians cross the road easily.

While there are pelican crossings outside the GMSH-16, the biggest hospital of the region lacks these.

As per traffic experts, about 14,000 patients visit the PGI. Out of these, only 2,000 come by cars and two-wheelers while the remaining (approximately 12,000) have to cross the road to reach the hospital. In the absence of pelican lights, they have to wait for a long time to cross the road.

“The authorities concerned should install pelican lights so that pedestrians can easily cross the road. It will also help checking road accidents. It is quite a difficult task for elderly and children, who visit the hospital, to cross the road during peak hours,” added another pedestrian. Sukhwinder Pal Singh Sondhi, DSP (Traffic-Central), was unavailable for comments. — TNS
