Khanna
Summer camp at Euro Kids:
Euro Kids School, Khanna, organised a summer camp Club-2009 here today. In a press note released here, the teachers said the activities of the  club were designed  in a creative  manner. The programme included activities like music, art and craft, story-writing, recitation, aerobics and yoga. Students from 2 to 10 years of age joined the club and participated in various activities. Principal Anju Bhatia said the summer camp had provided fun and knowledge to the students.

Ludhiana
Camp for NCC cadets:
NCC cadets of BVM Senior Secondary School Udham Singh Nagar, Ludhiana, attended the "Inter Bn proficiency competition camp JNV, Maiyawala Ferozepur. In this competition, two students have been selected for next competition i.e. Thal Sena camp. Cadets of eight units from Ludhiana participated. Cadet Shivali got first position and cadet Komal got second position.

Sweetened water offered:
Sevadars owing allegiance to the Baba Harnek Singh faction at the Nanak Sar Ashram Thath Sihar offered sweetened water at Jagera bridge and other places near here today. A large number of devotees served sweetened milk and chana. According to Baisakha Singh, a devotee, sweetened water was offered to commemorate the martyrdom of Guru Arjun Dev.

Arrested: The police yesterday arrested BJP activist Narinder Chauhan who was allegedly involved with six other persons in assaulting a Congress agent outside a polling station in Dadu Majra Colony on May 13 during the parliamentary elections.

HISAR
Entrance test postponed:
The entrance test for admission to MSc (Mathematics) and MSc (Physics) courses run by the Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology have been postponed to July 5. Earlier, the test was scheduled to be held on July 2. The timing and venue would remain the same, RS Jaglan, registrar, said here on Friday.

KURUKSHETRA
KU results declared:
Kurukshetra University (KU) has declared the results of BCom - III exams held in April 2009. Stating this to mediapersons here on Sunday, Sheffy Arora, a BCom final year student of Dyal Singh College, who stood second in Kurukshetra University, with her parents in Karnal on Sunday. KU Controller of Examination Dr Hukam Singh said the pass percentage of BCom - III this year was 83 per cent and the result was available on the University website www.kukinfo.com. Mamta of Hindu Kanya Mahavidyalya, Jind, topped the merit list by securing 1,468 out of 1,800 marks. Sheffy Arora of Dayal Singh College, Karnal, and Manisha Goyal of JC Mahila Mahavidyalya, Asandh, Karnal, got the second and third positions, respectively, in the merit list.

Woman killed in accident:
A 36-year-old woman, Chaman Kumari, a resident of Anandpur Ashram, New Delhi, was killed while three others were injured when the car they were travelling in suddenly overturned on the Jaipur-Delhi highway yesterday. The driver of the car, Virender Kumar, also sustained injuries. Sources said the vehicle overturned when the driver was trying to rescue an antelope.

Hamirpur
1,633 lakh spent under NREGA:
Hamirpur Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Jain said Rs 1,633 lakh had been spent till March 31 under NREGA and this project is still continuing in the district. He has directed all block development officers (BDOs) to display all works undertaken in all 229 panchayats by June 19 so that people could know about the development works carried in their areas.

Sangla fest:
The second Sangla Valley Household Tourism Festival, a community-based initiative for economic empowerment of tribal people by promoting agro-pastoral tourism, will be held on June 27 and 28. Brainchild of VC of Chaudhary Shrawan Kumar Agriculture University Tej Pratap, the event was introduced last year. It aims at eco-friendly tourism by showcasing the rich local culture.

Jeweller’s house burgled:
Miscreants allegedly broke into a house of a jeweller, Rakesh Suri, in Daru Giran Mohalla on Saturday and decamped with cash and jewellery worth lakhs of rupees. The person in charge of the Police Post, Mohinder Singh, said the total value of the stolen goods could be ascertained only when the family returned home.

Ancient idol found:
An idol, believed to be centuries old, was found during digging around a spring by villagers in Anantnag district of south Kashmir, a police spokesman said today. The antique was recovered by residents of Nagbal-Lisser village in Kokernag, 80 km from here, while digging around a spring yesterday, the spokesman said. He said the antique was handed over to the local police station.

UDHAMPUR
1 killed in mishap: One person was killed and 11 others injured, five of them seriously, when a minibus overturned near Bhaderwah on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as driver of the minibus Parveez Ahmed. The mishap took place when Parveez lost control over the vehicle while negotiating a curb. The injured where taken to the Bhaderwah Hospital, where Parveez succumbed to his injuries. Later, as the condition of the five injured started deteriorating, they were taken to the Government Medical College Hospital, Jammu.

MP felicitated: Newly elected Congress member of the Lok Sabha Choudhary Lal Singh on Sunday felicitated at Tikri, Balnagar and Udhampur town. Terming his victory as befitting reply to the divisive forces, he called upon the people to maintain brotherhood and communal harmony at any cost. He addressed a series of public meeting in Udhampur to express thanks to the people for their support in the Lok Sabha elections. Earlier, a procession was taken out from Rehmbal Garhi to PWD Dak Bunglaw where people gave him a warm reception.

DEHRADUN

Shot: The police claimed to have shot dead a thief in an encounter in Vasant Vihar area late Saturday night. His accomplice managed to flee. The deceased has been identified as Dharamveer, a resident of Gandhi Colony, Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh. The police have also seized jewellery worth Rs 50,000 and a revolver from Dharamveer’s possession. According to the police, Dharamveer was residing in the city for the past two years and was involved in several thefts.
